Human Too Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Considerin' me looking through you
Thinkin' it was somethin' I used to do

I thought I'd done anger
I thought I'd done shame
But I've always been the same

[Chorus]
Don't you know that I'm a human too?
You know that you're a human too?
And darlin', that's what humans do
So, tell me you're a human

[Verse 2]
I'm sorry about the bomb thing
That's overdue
I'm sorry that I quite liked seein' myself on the news

And I'm sorry that I'm someone that I wish I could change
But I've always been the same
Yeah, I've always been the same

[Chorus]
Don't you know that I'm a human too?
You know that you're a human too?
Darlin', that's what humans do
So, tell me you're a human
[Outro]
Don't you know that I'm a human too?
You know that you're a human too?
Darlin', that's what humans do
So, tell me you're a human
And don't you know that I'm a human too?
Should know that you're human too
Oh darlin', that's what humans do
So tеll me you're human
Oh, tell mе you're human
And tell me you're human

About

Genius Annotation

“Human Too” is the ninth song included in The 1975’s fifth studio album ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’.

The song includes themes of weakness, frailty, and fragility. This follows the same themes of some of the band’s previous songs, such as “Frail State of Mind”, “Sincerity is Scary”, and “Be My Mistake”.

It has been described as an “R&B bloodletting in which Healy lays his frailties bare” and Pitchfork stated that the song “features one of his most affecting vocal performances to date.”

What did The 1975 say about "Human Too"?
Genius Answer

There’s lines on the record where I talk about being canceled and acknowledge that it was something that I was dealing with. There’s no insane smear campaign. No one is going to the trouble of ruining my life for a hobby like they do with Meghan Markle. But it does sting when it happens, and this is the first time I’m saying, ‘It does affect me a bit. I totally get it, I’m a messy person…but I’m a good person. Give me a break a bit.’ I was worried about this song because I didn’t want to sound self-pitying, but it works because it’s really just about empathy and giving each other the benefit of the doubt as humans. We’re all people—let’s not pretend that we’re not going to make mistakes.

This record is about empathy. Me empathising with my own naivety when it comes to love, empathising with incels, empathising with 17-year-olds, empathising with people who are just human. You know that I’m human, I know that you’re human. Let’s start from there rather than this standard of perfection. I feel like a lot of young people are setting these moral, political, social standards that they’re never going to be able to live up to. Which is only going to lead them down this road of disappointment and reflection on being a flawed human.
