Elephant (triple j Like A Version) Lyrics

[Verse 1: Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce]
Well, he feels like an elephant
Shaking his big grey trunk for the hell of it
He knows that you're dreamin' about being loved by him
Too bad your chances are slim
And it's not like Mister Shuck
To get shy when they ask him who is on top
There must be something deep down in the middle down there
He's not too easily scared
He's got friends and they got the fear
Wouldn't care too much if he just disappeared
Oh look, see, there hе is now coming down the stairs
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Fruit salad

[Verse 2: Both]
Fruit salad
Yummy yummy
Fruit salad
Yummy yummy
Fruit salad
Yummy yummy

[Keytar Solo]
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Yummy

[Verse 2: Both]
Fruit salad
Yummy yummy
Fruit salad
Yummy yummy
Fruit salad
Yummy yummy

[Keytar Solo 2]
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Here hе comes

[Guitar Solo]
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do

[Verse 3: Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce, Both]
He pulled the mirrors off his Cadillac
'Cause he doesn't like it looking like he looks back
He talks like his opinion is a simple fact
Somebody grabbed his collar
He cried the whole way home

No one remembered a thing 'til they saw him again
That's how it is 'til the end
(Yeah)

About

Genius Annotation

Iconic Australian entertainers The Wiggles answered the call by Triple J hosts Bryce and Ebony to perform a cover for Like A Version. They made contact with Blue Wiggle and founding member Anthony Field in February 2021, leaving fans to guess as to what their cover was going to be.

The track was kept a secret until its release on Friday, March 5 Australian time. The band covered another iconic Australian track: the 2012 breakout hit by Tame Impala, “Elephant”, and included excerpts from their own original track “Fruit Salad” (1994). The song reached number 1 on the 2021 Hottest 100.

The line-up consisted of a mix of current Wiggles and original Wiggles members.

  • Red Wiggles: Simon Pryce (back-up vocals) and Murray Cook (electric guitar)
  • Purple Wiggles: Lachlan Gillespie (lead vocals and keytar) and Jeff Fatt (keys)
  • Blue Wiggle: Anthony Field (bass and elephant costume)
  • Yellow Wiggle: Emma Watkins (drums)

What did The Wiggles say about "Elephant (triple j Like A Version)"?
Genius Answer

“We wanted to choose something Australian. For most of the time that we’ve had the honour of going to The ARIAs, we get to see Tame Impala a lot on stage. We’ve never really met them properly but we thought that we’d like to pay tribute to this amazing Australian band.”
- Emma Wiggle

Where was original Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page?
Genius Answer

After retiring from Wiggles duty in 2006 due to health reasons, Greg has kept performing and music commitments to a minimum. He did make an appearance during a special reunion charity concert in 2020, but that led to heart complications.

He now predominantly dedicates his time to promoting cardiac health awareness around Australia. [x]

What have the artists said about the song?
Genius Answer

Covering ‘Elephant’ has been a truly special experience for us. When we first heard the track, it immediately seemed like a great fit. As we started rehearsing, I quickly realised I’d underestimated how complex the song is. The timing, phrasing, all of it was a big leap from our usual songs, which are typically played in 4/4 time. To put it simply, Kevin Parker is a genius. ‘Elephant’ coming in at No. 1 in the Hottest 100 was such a surprise and an honour, something we’re all incredibly humbled by.
