Genius Annotation

“And the Sentence Trails Off…” is the fourth track on The Devil Wears Prada’s 2006 debut album Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord. Like all of the other songs on the album (except for “Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over” & “Texas Is South”), this song first appeared on the band’s 2005 demo titled Patterns of a Horizon.

The song features a lot about the thought of judgement day. Mike and Jeremy are very critical of others and their materialistic ways, and can foresee how God views them. They are also very critical of themselves and realize all the sins they have committed. They beg for forgiveness, hoping God will accept them.

The song trades off between Mike Hranica’s screams and Jeremy DePoyster’s clean vocals. The song becomes very unpredictable later on with many unexpected tempo changes. This creates a very uneasy feel.
