Genius Annotation

This song is the 11th and final track of With Roots Above and Branches Below, which is suiting, seeing that the first track, “Sassafras”, also strongly alluded to trees–as does verse 2 of this song.

In this song, TDWP is frowning on the prideful and narcissistic whilst alluding to false idolatry and/or those who perform for the sake of money and fame as well as other material goods.

Xenu (aka “Overlord Xenu”) is a main figure in the Scientology belief, and may be referenced in the title as a form of bluff to those who believe in his existence, seeing that this song is frowning on false religion. He may also be referenced to show how unmerciful other religious figures are in comparison to Christianity’s God, seeing that Xenu is most known to have killed billions of his own people with hydrogen bombs because of the overpopulation of his home planet.
