BEST FOR ME Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I gave you all of me for none of you
Something that I don't ever do
You made me feel like I'm not good enough, yeah
And I don't wanna walk away, that's the last thing that I want
But, hey, I guess right now I have to do whatever's best for me (Best for me)

[Chorus]
I can't hold my breath no more
Tired of your selfish love
I can't be what you want
But I still wanna be loved
Never asked for nothin' else
Gotta do this for myself
I believed you loved me, girl
When I couldn't even love myself

[Verse 2]
I'm afraid of myself
You taught me how to hate myself
For you, oh, girl, I changed myself
And chained myself down, and then I start to blame myself
Back and forth with my head
Thinkin' 'bout what all you said
I swear it's been a week since I slept
'Cause mine don't feel the same as your bed
This ain't love, it's hard to fake it
You ain't mine, it's hard to face it
All of the time I wasted
I really tried to save us but
[Chorus]
I can't hold my breath no more
Tired of your selfish love
I can't be what you want
But I still wanna be loved
Never asked for nothin' else
Gotta do this for myself
I believed you loved me, girl
When I couldn't even love myself

About

Genius Annotation

On “BEST FOR ME,” Australian rapper and singer The Kid LAROI discusses his need to focus on himself and break free from a toxic, betrayal-ridden relationship.

The track shares a nearly identical instrumental with Jaden’s September 2014 track, “Blue Ocean,” which in turn samples Justin Timberlake’s March 2013 track, “Blue Ocean Floor.”

After originally previewing it in a July 2020 Caffeine Livestream, LAROI previewed the track in an Instagram post on March 28, 2021, while simultaneously suggesting its release for May 1.

While the track did not release on the originally intended date, it later came out in July 2021 on F*CK LOVE 3+: OVER YOU.
