Lightning Fields Lyrics

[Chorus: Brandon Flowers]
I just wanted to run my fastest and stand beside you in
The lightning field of love
Press your face to mine, name and raise again
Take the car out for a drive
Take me with you to the other side
Run my fastest and stand beside you in
The lightning field of love
Name and raise again, press your face to mine
Run my fastest and name and raise again
Give my name again, speak your name again
Bring myself to just tell you everything, tell you everything
Everything

Genius Annotation

According to lead singer Brandon Flowers, Lightning Fields is a song about his parents relationship. His mother Jean passed away due to cancer in 2010.

The band felt they needed a voice to represent the female component of the album depicted on the cover and chose K.D. Lang to do so. “I didn’t tell [Lang] this, but she’s representing my late mother. I didn’t know if that would turn her off or not. That’s my mom talking to my dad.”, as Flowers told NME Magazine.

This is not the first time Brandon has tackled his parents' relationship in song. He’s done so with The Killers (“A Dustland Fairytale”) and as a solo artist (“The Clock Was Tickin'”).
