The Calling Lyrics

[Chorus]
Follow the sun out of the night
Brother, just lean into the light
(Just lean into the light)
You wanna be sure, I’ll give you sight
Brother, just lean into the light
(Just lean into the light)
The road to the kingdom's burnin' bright
Brother, just lean into the light

[Bridge]
You heard that the master was traveling through
But what would you do if he walked in the room?
Make for the left, or break for the right?

Brother, just lean in
Brother, just lean into the light

[Chorus]
Follow the sun out of the night
Brother, just lean into the light
(Just lean into the light)
You wanna be sure, I’ll give you sight
Brother, just lean into the light
(Just lean into the light)
The road to the kingdom's burnin' bright
Brother, just lean into the light
(Just lean into the light)
Follow the sun out of the night
Brother, just lean into the light
[Outro]
Here comes the calling
Here comes the calling

What did The Killers say about "The Calling"?
Genius Answer

This is another dark one that started with Mark. We were messing around in a studio and I mentioned something about leaning into the light. He had just been looking at this painting by Caravaggio. And it’s called the calling of St Matthew. It’s obviously when Matthew in the Bible is called to discipleship. So we looked at the painting and were able to use that as a launching pad for the song.

We ended up taking it a little bit somewhere else. It’s about a son going back to his hometown to straighten his dad out. Woody Harrelson is actually reading out of Matthew at the beginning of the song."

Brandon Flowers talking about the song to Universal Music.
