Hey Joe Lyrics

Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
I said hey Joe where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
I'm going out to find my woman now, she's been runnin' around with some other man
I said I'm going out and find my woman now she's been runnin' around with some other man

Well hey Joe now what are you gonna do?
Well hey Joe tell me what are you gonna do?
Well I guess I'll shoot my woman now, that's what I'll do
Well I guess I'll shoot them both before I'm through

Well hey Joe tell me where are you gonna go?
Well hey Joe I said where are you gonna go?
Well I guess I'll go down to my place in Mexico
Said I guess I'll go down to where a man can be free
And there ain't gonna be no hangman's ropes put around me

Genius Annotation

In this 60s Garage rock hit, questions are asked by Leaves bassist Jim Pons to the fictional character “Joe”. The song is a backward and forward conversation between Pons and Joe, where Jim asks Joe the question a first time, and then repeats it again, and Joe (voiced by Leaves member John Beck) replies, stating that he is going to hunt down and kill his wife, who is having an affair with another man, and then leave the scene of the crime and migrate to a “free” place in Mexico to live at.
