The Ha Ha Wall Lyrics
[Verse 1]
If you get tired of just hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
And then you could be strung out all day
With lovers and clowns
Now I find myself hanging around
[Bridge]
It's been a long war, we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you
[Verse 2]
Well I've been thieving
I stole the light from the dawn
Well if you come round this ledge
You wish you'd never been born
Oh, tell me you can you see me
Oh, can't you see through it all?
I'm empty, lost and alone
Oh won't you heed my call?
[Bridge]
It's been a long war, yes, we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you
If you get tired of just hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
And then you could be strung out all day
With lovers and clowns
Now I find myself hanging around
[Bridge]
It's been a long war, we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you
[Verse 2]
Well I've been thieving
I stole the light from the dawn
Well if you come round this ledge
You wish you'd never been born
Oh, tell me you can you see me
Oh, can't you see through it all?
I'm empty, lost and alone
Oh won't you heed my call?
[Bridge]
It's been a long war, yes, we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you
[Chorus]
Oh, I'm so tired of hanging around
Oh, I'll pick up a guitar, spin a web of sound
Spin my love
[Outro]
So tired of hanging around
Just hanging around
Just hanging around
Oh, I'm so tired of hanging around
Oh, I'll pick up a guitar, spin a web of sound
Spin my love
[Outro]
So tired of hanging around
Just hanging around
Just hanging around

Genius Annotation
In an interview in 2004, Carl Barât said “Ha Ha Wall originally stands for a wall separating a mansion and a garden during the Victorian era, but, in this song, it refers to a wall along the Thames in the Embankment, which is to reinforce a dam against flooding. The government spent a large amount of money to build it several years ago, but it’s something laughed at, because it will be no use when a heavy flood actually happens. […] Peter likes the place. It seems he is thinking about it whenever he brings up the Thames in conversation.”
