BRIGHTSIDE Lyrics
I could see it in the air
Every word was like smoke from a cigarette
You were blowin' in your hands
The heater broke in the Oldsmobile
And the light in your eyes
Alone on the freeway
[Verse 2]
I was stranded in the bed
You were listening to The Dark Side of the Moon
I could barely see your eyes
Psilocybin in a hotel room
[Pre-Chorus]
And the light in your eyes
The waves on the ceiling
[Chorus]
I’ll be your brightside, baby, tonight
I'll be your brightsidе, baby, tonight
Tonight
[Verse 3]
You were tired of Tacoma
I was tirеd of believing we were right
Losing every other friend
Finding nothing in the afterlife
But the light in your eyes
Alone on a feeling
[Chorus]
I'll be your brightside, baby, tonight
I’ll be your brightside, baby, tonight
Tonight
[Post-Chorus]
You're stranded on the bridge
You're crying for your kids
I'll be your brightside, baby, tonight
Tonight
Tonight
[Verse 4]
I could see it in the air
Every word was like smoke from a cigarette
Sun is coming up ahead
Get your crack in the windshield shine
[Pre-Chorus]
And the light in your eyes
Alone on the freeway
I'll be your brightside, baby, tonight
I'll be your brightside, baby, tonight
Tonight
[Post-Chorus]
You're stranded on the bridge
The cops are closing in
I'll be your brightside, baby, tonight
Tonight
Tonight
About
The energetic title track off of The Lumineers' fourth album departures from the acoustic and organic instrumental the band has presented on their discography, aiming to a more electric and stronger soundscape.
The song was “recorded in a single day” and revolves around one person committing themselves to their partner when times aren’t the best, while, at the same time, shining a light on the fact that only love can ameliorate one’s despair.
The music video expands the imagery with a new cinematic universe, depicting the love of real couples, while exploring their eccentric manners. Lead singer Wesley Schultz discussed the video casting on a Facebook livestream in September 2021:
The music video was done by this amazing director named Kyle Thrash […] He’s an incredible person, as far as finding real people and not actors. What you’re seeing are these people who are actually in love, and have been through some hard times together, some beautiful times together.
