Coming for You (Single Version) Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Time to go and get our kicks
Dropping out and getting in the mix now

In the back room, nothing to do
We're not bored, we're just sick of you, yeah
Yeah, sick of you

[Chorus]
Breakdown, takedown, now it's on
Sold out, blow out, Donkey Kong
Well, no, hell no, what you gonna do
When they keep coming for you?

[Verse 2]
See the shadows marching on
Yesterday's dreams are dead and gone
Dead and gone
Hear the cheering up above
Down below, it's push and shove
Yeah, push and shove

[Chorus]
Breakdown, takedown, now it's on
Sold out, blow out, Donkey Kong
Well, no, hell no, what you gonna do
When they keep coming for you?
Bet some, get some, knock you down
Lowdown, showdown, kiss the ground
Well, no, hell no, what you gonna do?
Lights out, permanent snooze, they'll be coming for you
[Bridge]
What's up? Fuck you up

[Chorus]
Breakdown, takedown, now it's on
Sold out, blow out, Donkey Kong
Well, no, hell no, what you gonna do?
They just keep coming for you
Bet some, get some, knock you down
Lowdown, showdown, kiss the ground
Well, no, hell no, what you gonna do?
Lights out, permanent snooze, they'll be coming for you
They'll be coming for you
They'll be coming for you

About

Genius Annotation

“Coming for You” was the first original song released from The Offspring following their 2012 album Days Go By. While it was initially uncertain if the song would be a standalone single or appear on an album, a tweet from Dexter Holland implied that the album was in an unfinished state. A modified version of the song would eventually appear on the band’s tenth studio album, Let the Bad Times Roll, over six years later.

Dexter and Noodles hosted a live Twitter Q&A for the song, but refused to answer what the song was about exactly, saying, “What do you think it’s about?”

Leading up to the release, the band posted several parody pictures on their Facebook of popular films such as Star Wars and Jaws.

Genius Answer

When we wrote [2015’s] “Coming for You”, we were at a point where everyone was saying, ‘Why bother doing an album? Everyone just listens to the single anyway. Why don’t you just put out singles?’ I liked the song. It was played on the radio. But it was never like officially released, I don’t think. It felt unsatisfying. So we decided to not put out any more songs after that, and just finish the album. It still felt like “Coming for You” belonged with the other songs on an album.
