Dirty Magic (2012) Lyrics

[Verse 1]
In my own simple way
I think she wants me only
She said come over right away
But she's just not that way
Her little soul is stolen
See her put on a brand new face

[Chorus]
Go on and pull the shades
Razor blades
You're so tragic
Go on I hate you so
But love you more
I'm so elastic
Oh, all The things you say
The games you play
Dirty magic stop

[Verse 2]
I should know better than
To think I'd reach inside her
It's all a cloudy kind of daze
She's not so sweet today
She mocks me, I'm no fighter
It all just seems like such a waste
[Chorus]

[Bridge]
It's oversimplified
It's oversimplified
It's oversimplified

[Chorus]

Genius Annotation

The original Dirty Magic from their Ignition Album in 1992 had a chorus that was a prototype for what became the chorus of their song Have You Ever from their Americana Album released in 1998. Have You Ever’s chorus had 2 extra syllables at the beginning.

That modification sounded great in Have You Ever which must have inspired Dexter to add the 2 syllable phrases in the new version of Dirty Magic as “Go on” and Oh all"

This version of Dirty Magic was first released as an acoustic performance by Dexter and Noodles on the Greatest Hits album’s bonus material.

Now it has been re-recorded with the full band and is an official track in their 2012 album Days Go By
