The Opioid Diaries Lyrics
Their end of days looks more like tomorrow
Their end of days started with a pill
But they're not junkies like the news guy said
They're just kids who've gotten over their heads
Big Pharma hooked them in the first place
And it won't stop
[Chorus]
Come on, Sean, you're on drugs
You're gonna run out of luck
You could still find your way
You know it won't get better
Come on home while you can
I know I don't understand
You could still find your way
You know it won't get better
[Verse 2]
When those pills are gone, what's gonna happеn?
When those pills are gonе, what drug is next?
We've made a nation full of kids on dope
They're looking down now at the end of their rope
So now who's gonna come and fix this?
'Cause it won't stop
Come on, don't tie it off
Be your undoer of knots
If you can't still find your way
You know it won't get better
Come on, hold while you can
I know I don't understand
If you can't still find your way
You know it won't get better
[Bridge]
It won't get better
It won't get better
It won't get better
It won't get better
Now we've made a nation full of kids on dope (Dope)
They're looking down now at the end of their rope (Rope)
So now who's gonna come and fix this?
'Cause it won't stop now
Yeah
[Verse 3]
'Cause they're not junkies like the news guy said
They're just kids who've gotten over their heads
Big Pharma hooked them in the first place
And it won't stop
Come on, Sean, you're on drugs
You're gonna run out of luck
You could still find your way
You know it won't get better
Come on, hold while you can
I know I don't understand
You could still find your way
You know it will get better

The song is about addiction, of course, and that’s not a new topic. But the reason I wanted to write this song is because I felt there was something unique going on in America, and that’s the opioids, of course. The people becoming addicted aren’t the people that you would normally expect to become addicted. It’s the quarterback that got an injury. It’s the blue-collar guy that hurt his back looking for some pain medication. Innocently enough, they’re getting prescribed stuff that they have no idea is highly addictive. It’s completely the fault of the pharmaceutical industry. They knew how addictive these medications are, and so patients start on these pills and then they either can’t fill the prescription or can’t afford it, and so they find themselves on heroin. They’re ODing on heroin. We’re creating these accidental addicts.
