Attack Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I won't suffer, be broken, get tired or wasted
Surrender to nothing or will give up what I
Started and stop this, from end to beginning
A new day is coming and I am finally free

[Chorus]
Run away, run away, I'll attack
Run away, run away, go chase yourself
Run away, run away now, I'll attack

[Verse 2]
I would've kept you, forever, but we had to sever
It ended for both of us, faster than a
Kill off this thinking, it's starting to sink in
I'm losing control now, but without you, I can finally see

[Chorus]
Run away, run away, I'll attack
Run away, run away, go chase yourself
Run away, run away now, I'll attack

[Bridge]
Your promises, they look like lies
Your honesty like a back that hides a knife
I promise you, I promise you
I am finally free
[Chorus]
Run away, run away, I'll attack
Run away, run away, go chase yourself
Run away, run away now, I'll attack
I will attack

[Outro]
Your promises
I promise you, I promise you

Genius Answer

“Attack” is a track that almost didn’t make the cut for A Beautiful Lie’s final tracklist, but ended up being the first single. Frontman Jared Leto told the story behind the song through the band’s old website. He wasn’t convinced of the track’s worth until he showed it to producer Josh Abraham:

I started playing ‘Attack,’ and he stopped me after the first chorus and said, ‘That’s the best song you have. You have to record it.’ I said, ‘No way in hell.’ But he encouraged me, so I went in and grabbed the guys and things just fell into place. Not only is it the first song on the record, it’s the first single, and it’s getting a tremendous response. I told Josh that night, ‘This song deserves to be a hit just so we can tell this story.’
