Where We Started Lyrics
I'd come through around two
And pick you up right after your shift (After your shift)
And drive that Chevrolet like a getaway
You'd be countin' your tips (Countin' your tips)
[Pre-Chorus: Thomas Rhett & Katy Perry]
Windows down and screamin' out
World, wait for us
Everybody, just wait for us
Yeah, we're comin', just wait for us
[Chorus: Thomas Rhett]
Those days when you're brokenhearted
And you get knocked down
And you say you don't know how far we're gonna go
Just look at that road and think about where we started
Keep your eyes on me 'cause talk is cheap
We're all we need, yeah
Darlin', I know how far we're gonna go
Just look at that road and think about where we started
[Verse 2: Katy Perry]
I'd be playin' my guitar
Singin' them covers in an empty room (Covers in an empty room)
You knew one day I would make a
Livin' out of singing 'bout you (Livin' out of singin' 'bout you)
Windows down and screamin' out
World, wait for us
Everybody, just wait for us
Yeah, we're comin', just wait for us
[Chorus: Thomas Rhett & Katy Perry]
Those days when you're brokenhearted
And you get knocked down
And you say you don't know how far we're gonna go
Just look at that road and think about where we started
Keep your eyes on me 'cause talk is cheap
We're all we need, yeah
Darlin', I know how far we're gonna go
Just look at that road and think about where we started
[Bridge: Thomas Rhett, Katy Perry]
And how far we're gonna go
And all the things we gotta see
If you wonder 'bout our future
Think about our history
[Chorus: Thomas Rhett & Katy Perry, Thomas Rhett]
Those days when you're brokenhearted
And you get knocked down
And you say you don't know (Don't know) how far we're gonna go (Gonna go)
Just look at that road and think about where we started (That road)
Keep your eyes on me 'cause talk is cheap
We're all we need, yeah
Darlin', I know how far we're gonna go
Just look at that road and think about where we started
Ooh, oh
Where we started

Thomas Rhett discusses the song and about Katy Perry being featured:
I wrote this one song called ‘Where We Started’ with some good friends of mine named [pop singer] Jon Bellion, Ashley Gorley and Jesse Frasure. We were out at my farm, and this song, for some reason, spurred a lot of other songs that followed suit with it. It kinda started becoming a different project. I don’t think we were looking for a collaboration on this song.
When Katy Perry and her team became interested in the song, the song was sent their way. Rhett stated:
I was like, ‘Yeah, but they’re not gonna respond.’…And literally within 24 hours Katy responded and said, ‘I love this. I resonate with this so well,’“ the singer goes on to say. "When she put her vocal on it, it took her, like, two weeks. She really put a lot of time and effort into this vocal…This reminded me of how amazing a vocalist she is, and I feel like it really came to life.

Thomas Rhett:
I really didn’t have any intention of having a feature on this track, but my label was saying, like, ‘Hey, this would be cool with maybe a female feature.’ And I was like, ‘Well, who are y'all thinking that you want to ask?’ And they said, ‘Katy Perry.’ And I literally laughed. I was like, ‘There’s no way that she is going to, first of all, like this song, or, second of all, have any interest in doing a song with me.’ And she literally got back with our management the next day and said yes. And that’s just a God thing. You can’t make that stuff up. I’ve been a fan of Katy since I was like 14 years old. In my opinion she’s a pop icon of my generation.
