Your Song Lyrics

[Verse 1]
It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money, but boy if I did
I'd build a big house where we both could live

[Verse 2]
If I were a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it's not much, but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

[Chorus]
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's gone
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

[Verse 3]
So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do
You see, I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

[Chorus]
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's gone
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

About

Genius Annotation

On March 31, 1970, ten days before Elton John released “Your Song”, Three Dog Night released the first recording of the song on their fourth album It Ain’t Easy.

Elton John had been an opening act for Three Dog Night during this time and was still an up-and-coming artist. While he allowed the band to record it, they did not release it as a single as they wanted to see if John could have success with it. The song first appeared on John’s self-titled second album, and became his first top 10 hit after he released the song as a single later in 1970.
