“Peppermint” is Tiffany Young’s first holiday song as a soloist, even though she’s previously released other Christmas time music, including the 2015 Christmas-themed EP Dear Santa with Girls’ Generation-TTS subunit.
The song came out after Young began teasing the track on social media a day before its release, using emojis like wrapped gifts, snowflakes, and Christmas trees as she asked fans “should I release my Christmas song tomorrow?”
After its release, she posted on Instagram that the song was dedicated to her “forevers,” a nod at her fan following.
Unlike the prior two tracks, “Teach You” and “Over My Skin”, which veered towards quirky, funky pop, “Peppermint” is a chill, lush alt-R&B track in which the Girls’ Generation member sings about being unwrapped under “red, green lights”. The title alludes to lyrics describing the “sweet and cool” kiss of the one who makes her happy.
