Die a Little Bit Lyrics

[Intro: Tinashe]
Woah

[Verse 1: Tinashe]
Sometimes I can't, but I've been told I need to breathe
This life ain't something for someone like you and me
We just get caught up in the things that we don't need
Plenty time wasted, what are we waitin' for?
Searching for something in someone without a soul
Running in circles 'cause I suck at letting go
Starting to feel like there's no chance of breaking through

Plenty time wasted, what am I waitin' for?

[Chorus: Ms. Banks & Tinashe]
Drink, smoke, dance, vibe a little bit
Fuck, change, ride, die a little bit
Drink, smoke, dance, vibe a little bit
Fuck, change, ride, die a little bit

[Post-Chorus: Kudzai Kachingwe & King Kachingwe]
(Who like to, who like to) Now, when you go to the ground
(Who like to, who like to) Make sure that you pump your heels
Please, pump your heels (Who like to, who like to)
If you do it stick-footed (Who like to, who like to)
You'll never get so far (Who like to, who like to)
Who like to party?
[Bridge: Tinashe]
Who got the room, I take what I like
Who got, who got the smoke I like to get by (Smoke)
I need enough to last the whole time

To last the whole night, to last my whole life
Who got the room, I take what I like
Who got, who got the smoke I like to get by (Smoke)
I need enough to last the whole time
To last the whole night, to last my whole life

[Verse 2: Ms Banks]
I rock the party that rock your body (Uh)
In that Givenchy and Cavalli (Uh)
Step up in the dance, these niggas they're on me (yeah)
I want that white, that rum Bacardi
'Cause it's been a long night (Uh)
But it ain't light (Uh)
You've been uptight (Oh)
Finna get right (Uh)
Wanna let go, party 'til the sunlight (Uh-uh)
Want a big bag, wrist on frostbite
I came, I saw, need a encore (Yeah)
I do the dash, pedal to the floor (Uh)
I'm a hustler (Mm), and a tough nut (Mm)
Talking top tier (Mm), they ain't made the cut (Haha)
I shell, ain't talkin' seashores
I been 'bout my shit, I barely get bored
Money callin' then you know I'ma go
Got the whole front row screaming
"Gimme some more", uh
[Interlude: Kudzai Kachingwe & King Kachingwe]
Bam! Do you want more? Yeah
You do? Yeah
Who like to, who like to
Who like to, who like to
Who like to, who like to
Who like to party?

[Chorus: Tinashe]
Drink, smoke, dance, vibe a little bit
Fuck, change, ride, die a little bit
Drink, smoke, dance, vibe a little bit
Fuck, change, ride, die a little bit

[Outro: Kudzai Kachingwe]
I'm gonna show you what it's like to dance
This is probably my favorite part because
You just get to be free

With this album process, we were really doing a lot of experimenting, especially with sonics and trying to throw paint at the wall and see what sticks. So for this particular session, it was recorded in my home studio at my house, downstairs. I brought over three producers I’d never worked with before, one songwriter I’d never worked before, and I was like, “Yo, let’s do something different. You know, let’s strip it back, let’s take the production, make it really minimal.” I want it to be really pulsating and just go off of that as the blueprint. So we structured out this loop. From there, I just tried a whole bunch of different approaches, and the song came out so interesting that I think I was really surprised that it all fell together.

At the time of my life, I was partying all the time. All the time. And it was, for me, this way to numb this pain, this heartache. I was not in a great place. I found the way that I got through that period of time, and I think a lot of people can relate to using those vices, whether it be alcohol, weed, you know, whatever it is to kind of let you cruise through life or numb the highs and lows. And so this song was kind of an ode to that, but I kind of wanted it to be hidden in a way. I didn’t want it to be super obvious that it was a dark theme. I wanted it to feel like you’re partying, like you’re having fun, like everybody’s out here just living it up. But in actuality, if you really, really listen and really break it down, there’s definitely some darkness, some nuance underneath.

When I initially wrote the song, I had made it to be a A person-B person song. So there was already this alternate part that I thought would be really cool, to have this call and response. Cause in my head, I was like, “Okay, I’m in the club. I’m doing my thing, I’m in my moment. I’m in my head, and I imagine someone comes over to me and is like, ‘Hey girl, drink, smoke, dance.’ And then I’m like, ‘You know what? That’s a good idea!’ So then I join in, I’m like, ‘Drink, smoke.’” So it was already that banter between an imaginary person and me. And I really wanted to get a female artist to do it because I haven’t had very many female collabs. And I also really wanted to get a British artist to do it because I thought it would sound fire. And Ms. Banks is one of my favorite, favorite, favorite female rappers out of the UK. She’s sick. All of her stuff is really dope, and she’s a really sweet person. So I sent her the track cause she doesn’t live in LA, she lives in the UK and she sent it back and I loved it. I thought she made the song better, which is always a great goal when you’re having a feature; that it enhances the song and doesn’t just throw in a feature. She made the song so much better, which I loved. And then she came to LA so we could shoot the video together and that was really great. So we got to like meet and hang out and vibe.
