Songwriter Rose Gold said the following in an interview with CyberTLC World:

‘Joyride’ is a song of many meanings. I wrote it initially because I missed my family and I thought they deserved the truth about how I feel. I wanted to say thank you for loving and supporting my art and movement. Also I knew TLC needed a song for the fans. I wanted to write their story from my eyes. What they would they say to us if this was the last time they could say thank you. I wanted the fans to feel appreciated and know that they appreciate us too. TLC is a huge part of our culture and I wanted to express that thru the song. They support us and we support them.
