The End Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I was twenty days clean yesterday
I get a key ring if I make it through to May
Can we talk? Is that okay?
If you've got time, I know a place
A rose garden in the North side of the park
They shut the gates about an hour after dark
We could walk there, we can laugh
Ain't it funny how owners look like their dogs?

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, I'll claw back my confidence
You'll say, "Do you think we can be friends?"

[Chorus]
Oh, maybe we have reached The End
Oh, maybe we have reached The End

[Verse 2]
Do you remember when Taylor Hawkins died?
Did you see his son playin' the drums live?

It made me sad, did it make you cry?
I thought of you, I don't know why

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, give me back my oxygen
You'll say, "Do you think we can be friends?"
[Chorus]
Oh, maybe we have reached The End
Oh, maybe we have reached The End

[Outro]
"Yeah"

What did Tom Odell say about "The End"?
Genius Answer

It was interesting that this song isn’t trying to tie up loose ends—even though it’s called ‘The End’. I guess it asked the question: What does the end even mean? As one gets older, you have so many relationships and friendships with friends and family and lovers and colleagues, and as times passes by, there are more and more people that will naturally get left behind in your wake. They go one way, you go the other. But I’m fascinated by that in the sense that it doesn’t necessarily mean your feelings change. Life, I increasingly find, is full of fragments of impressions you’ve made on people that then come back to you—and you get this amazing time capsule back to another time or another version of yourself. It’s a very sentimental song.
