Over My Head Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You better look out 'cause suspicious eyes are watching
Don't let them see us holding hands
I know that you and I should not be seen here talking
I kinda like the razor's edge

[Verse 2]
I always go for danger, like to walk a tightrope
I do my show without a net
It never fails, I dive into the deepest ocean
Not knowing if I'll sink or swim

[Chorus]
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh

[Verse 3]
We're always meeting in the dark, it's hard to see you
I'll feel my way, I'll take a chance
Risking exposure every time I come to meet you
I'm begging Lady Luck again

[Chorus]
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh
[Bridge]
I got a feeling this time, I can't take it
You'll play the game in a place unreal
Oh no, I've fallen so fast already
I'm deeper than I should be
I'm over my head

[Guitar Solo]

[Chorus]
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh (I'm over my head)
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh (Over my head)
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh (I'm over my head)
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh (Over my head)
Oh, oh, I'm over my head
Oh, oh (I'm over my head)
Oh, oh, I'm over my head

Genius Annotation

Toni Basil brings about a more “mainstream-sounding” song with ‘Over my Head’.

While Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’ was her only song to truly break into the mainstream, there were more songs under her belt than you think.

‘Over my Head’ was the first single from Basil’s self-titled second album. It was a more serious-sounding track than Basil’s previous fare. Despite the more mainstream sound, ‘Over my Head’ didn’t do particularly well.

While her biggest hit, ‘Mickey’ managed to reach the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, ‘Over my Head’ only reached the #81 spot. This is likely due to her strange follow up single to ‘Mickey’, ‘Shopping From A to Z’.
