“Milk From The Coconut, Pt. 1” is a song from new wave girl group Toto Coelo.
In their third single release, we see the group evolve from (but not completely abandon) their camp roots in favor of a more disco-oriented sound complete with a driving bass line.
Released as the final single from their debut Man O' War, the track was the lowest charting single from the album. It peaked at #102 in their native UK and #100 in Australia, but fared much better in South Africa where it peaked at #4. The group can be seen performing “Milk From The Coconut, Pt. 1,” “Man O' War” and the unreleased tracks “Automation” and “Calories” in the 1983 horror film Grizzly II: Revenge.
“Milk From The Coconut, Pt. 1” would be the last single to be promoted by all five members of the group. Following the departure of Anita Mahadervan and Sheen Doran, Toto Coelo would continue to release music as a trio.
