2 Die 4 Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You don't look like in your photo
You're prettier than that
Now I kinda wish that you said so
Would've put in more effort

[Pre-Chorus]
Man, I hope you call me, call me
'Cause I know I won't let you down
And I hope you believe, believe
I'll be here for you, here for you

[Chorus]
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
Drag you out at midnight to dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
When I think about you, thе world go less blue
Let's do it ovеr again
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
Drag you out at midnight to dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
When I think about you, the world go less blue
Let's do it over again
[Verse 2]
I'll go on all your adventures
If you wanna find yourself
I've been to so many places
But I've never felt better

[Pre-Chorus]
Man, I hope you call me, call me
'Cause I know I won't let you down
Man, I hope you believe this
I'll be here for you, here for you

[Chorus]
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
Drag you out at midnight to dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
When I think about you, the world go less blue
Let's do it over again
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
Drag you out at midnight to dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You're to die for every day
When I think about you, the world go less blue
Let's do it over again (It works)
[Outro]
You're to die for every day

About

Genius Annotation

“2 Die 4” is the third single from Tove Lo’s fifth studio album, Dirt Femme, released on July 27, 2022.

Tove Lo debuted the song, along with “True Romance” during her first live show since the pandemic in Santa Ana’s The Observatory on May 18, and continued performing both tracks during her 2022 tour dates in the US and Europe.

Following its live debut, “2 Die 4” instantly caught the attention of fans, who started asking for the song to be released. After several requests, Tove Lo shared on TikTok a teaser of the song for the first time on June 30.

The track heavily interpolates the famous 1969 instrumental by Gershon Kingsley, best known for Hot Butter’s 1972 version.

Although Lo and producer Oscar Görres have been seen together in the studio several times throughout the years, “2 Die 4” only marks their second collaboration to be released, the first being 2016’s “Flashes.”

With ‘2 Die 4’ I wanted ‘instantly iconic’ energy. I’ve never sampled anything before, and this feels like the perfect first moment. Lyrically I wanted it to be that ‘pick me up when I’m feeling down’ song. At first, it’s like a warm hug, then you shake it off, let out a scream and start dancing!

My friend Oscar Görres and I were talking about the reemergence of Y2K trends—in music, films, photography, fashion—and it makes us feel old. But sometimes it’s interesting to look at things from a new angle—trance music, for example. When I was a kid, I hated it. I was like, ‘There’s no vocals, I don’t get this.’ Now I’m like, ‘How did I ever miss out on all this sick synthy shit?’ So this song kind of channels that era. It’s a slower tempo, but it’s nostalgic to me.
