Cold In LA Lyrics

[Verse 1: Daniel Seavey]
I'm a little bit shy
I’m a little bit right on time
And I know that you don't operate the same
Are you feelin' alright?
’Cause I really can't tell sometimes
I wanna know what's going on inside your brain
Just come a little bit closer
'Cause I don't know if I know you yet
Yeah, there seems to be something new everyday
Why do I really wanna hold you?
Why do I want you so bad?
Yeah, you're beautiful but something's in my way

[Pre-Chorus: Jack Avery]
Yeah, we started with a good night
Then it turned to day

Never thought that we would
Ever say the things we say
To each other but we're
Here, just starin’ face to face
Why don’t you just stay with me?

[Chorus: Jonah Marais]
Don't walk away
’Cause it's cold in LA
Every time that you leave me behind

Just stay at my place
'Cause I can tell by the way
You're lookin’ at me, you'll be fine
[Verse 2: Corbyn Besson with Daniel Seavey]
Is your body talkin'?
'Cause you don't know what to say
Do you do this often?
Is it all just a game to you, I'm wonderin'

Never seen this sort of thing
Am I the only one you came to see?

[Pre-Chorus: Jack Avery with Jonah Marais]
Yeah, we started with a good night
Then it turned to day

Never thought that we would
Ever say the things we say
To each other but we're
Here, just starin' face to face (Ooh)
Why don't you just stay with me?

[Chorus: Jonah Marais]
Don't walk away
'Cause it's cold in LA
Every time that you leave me behind

Just stay at my place
'Cause I can tell by the way
You're lookin' at me, you'll be fine

[Post-Chorus: Corbyn Besson & Jonah Marais]
(Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh) You'll be fine either way
(Oh-oh-oh) But I wish you'd stay
No, no, no (Oh-oh-oh)
[Bridge: Zach Herron]
Yeah, we started with a good night
Then it turned to day

Never thought that we would
Ever say the things we say
To each other but we're
Here, just starin' face to face
Why don't you just stay with me?

[Chorus: Jonah Marais, with Daniel Seavey, Jack Avery]
Don't walk away (Ooh)
'Cause it's cold in LA
Every time that you leave me behind

Just stay at my place (Stay at my place, oh)
'Cause I can tell by the way
You're lookin' at me, you'll be fine (Fine)
You'll be fine either way

[Outro: Corbyn Besson & Jonah Marais]
(Oh-oh-oh)
'Cause it's cold in LA
Every time that you leave me behind

(Oh-oh-oh)
You'll be fine either way
Stay at my place
(Oh-oh-oh)
'Cause I can tell by the way
But I wish you'd stay
You lookin' at me, you'd be fine

About

Genius Annotation

In “Cold In LA,” Why Don’t We beg their love interest to stay with them, metaphorically comparing this person’s warmth to the temperature in the city which they live – Los Angeles, commonly abbreviated to LA.

It is the second single released after their debut album 8 Letters following their previous January release “BIG PLANS”. The love song was fittingly released on Valentine’s Day, 2019.

The song was initially demoed by band members Daniel Seavey and Jonah Marais, neither of which were in a public relationship at the time.

How was the track teased before it's release?
Genius Answer

On February 12th, 2019 a voice clip was posted online by Why Don’t We, featuring band member Daniel Seavey improvising over a track which featured vocals from Jonah Marais.

The voice note was titled “Cold in La”, so it was assumed that this would be the song title. This was later confirmed by the band. This demo seems to suggest that Jonah and Daniel were the primary lyricists for the track, with their own individual tweets reflecting this:

The track was also teased in January by Daniel:

Which of the members of the band wrote the lyrics?
Genius Answer

Whilst all members of the band have claimed credit for the lyrics, it was Daniel and Jonah who initially wrote the track, as shown in an audio clip recorded the demoing process and an Instagram post from the same time showing the pair recording together. Additionally, music licensing site BMI only lists Daniel and Jonah:

A fan commented on the song’s production, with Daniel leaving a reply that suggested he also produced the track:

Where was the song written?
Genius Answer

Although the title suggests the track was written on a cold day in Los Angeles, it was revealed during a question and answer session on Twitter that the track was wrote in Dublin last year.

At the time, the band were on tour.
