Jet Lyrics

[Chorus]
Jet!
Jet!
Jet
, I can almost remember their funny faces
That time you told 'em that you were gonna be marrying soon

[Pre-Chorus]
And Jet, I thought the only lonely place was on the moon

[Chorus]
Jet! (Ooh)
Jet! (Ooh)

[Verse 2]
Jet, was your father as bold as a Sergeant Major?
Oh, how come he told you that you were hardly old enough yet?

[Pre-Chorus]
And Jet, I thought the Major was a Lady Suffragette

[Chorus]
Jet! (Ooh)
Jet! (Ooh)

[Bridge]
Ah, mater
Want Jet to always love me
Ah, mater
Want Jet to always love me
Ah, mater
Much later

[Instrumental Bridge]
Jet!

[Pre-Chorus]
And Jet, I thought the Major was a little Lady Suffragette

[Chorus]
Jet! (Ooh)
Jet! (Ooh)

[Bridge]
Ah, mater
Want Jet to always love me
Ah, mater
Want Jet to always love me
Ah, mater
Much later

[Verse 3]
Jet, with the wind in your hair of a thousand laces
Climb on the back, and we'll go for a ride in the sky

[Pre-Chorus]
And Jet, I thought that the Major was a little Lady Suffragette

[Chorus]
Jet! (Ooh)
Jet! (Ooh)
[Pre-Chorus]
And Jet, you know I thought you was a little Lady Suffragette

[Outro]
Jet! (Ooh)
A little lady
My little lady, yes, oh!

About

Genius Annotation

At the time of its release, Paul explained that “Jet” was inspired by a black Labrador puppy he owned, though in recent years he has started claiming it is about a horse or pony.

Regardless, the lyrics are barely relevant to either animal, with Paul conceding that many of the lyrics were little more than nonsense:

I make up so much stuff. It means something to me when I do it, and it mean’s something to the record buyer, but if I’m asked to analyze it I can’t really explain what it is. ‘Suffragette’ was crazy enough to work. It sounded silly, so I liked it.

Given the references to Majors and suffragettes, some have speculated that this song is McCartney’s tribute to David Bowie. Paul has never said as much, so it’s probably just a coincidence. Although an interesting note is that Tony Visconti, Bowie’s longtime producer and collaborator, did the orchestration on this song/album.
