After numerous teasers, YUNGBLUD finally releases his first collaborative effort with Dan Reynolds. The high energy track, “original me”, filled with self-pity is about acceptance, about being the ‘original you’ despite the insecurities. YUNGBLUD is often found discussing his insecurities.
When Dan reached out to YUNGBLUD through a call about the collab, YUNGBLUD dismissed the call considering it as a prank call. However, Dan redials him explaining an idea for a song and sends a rough demo for the song. YUNGBLUD, in an interview with ET Canada, revealed the song roughly took 5 hours to complete.

This song is about accepting the parts of yourself that you hate and realising your biggest superpower is to be originally, authentically yourself. Working with Dan Reynolds was such a dream come true as he is a huge inspiration for me. The song literally came out of the studio within a day. The mutual raw energy between us made this song what it is.
On Twitter, YUNGBLUD tweeted the first fifteen seconds of the song with a quote “ready” to which Dan Reynolds replied “i’m ready,” which also had first fifteen seconds of the song.
