“Rear View,” accompanied by Mariah the Scientist, is the second single leading up to YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s sixth full-length studio album, Don’t Try This At Home. The track sees YoungBoy equip a soothing, R&B-like theme as he raps about his toxic relationship with his previous girlfriend.
The song’s soft, and loving tone shares a similar cadence to the previously released Nicki Minaj-accompanied, “WTF” which also sees YoungBoy rap in a mellow fashion. The harmonious use of the piano magnifies the emotion both artists release.
In the track, YoungBoy seems to be rapping about his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child, Jania Meshell who has YoungBoy’s birth name, Kentrell, tattooed across the side of her face. Mariah, on the other hand, drops several hints, using her wordplay to reference Young Thug, her currently incarcerated boyfriend.
The song’s official Isaac Garcia-directed music video was released alongside the track. The video sees YoungBoy dancing in his Utah home while on house arrest, whereas Mariah is seen on a Football field at night.
The song was officially teased by Mariah the Scientist through a Tweet which indicated its release on April 13, 2023. The track was officially announced through the Never Broke Again label’s Instagram which posted a promotional cover art just hours prior to the track’s release.
