Rear View Lyrics

[Intro: YoungBoy Never Broke Again]
(Drell's on the track)
Ah-ah
Ah-ah

[Verse 1: YoungBoy Never Broke Again]
Why you treat me like I don't mean nothin' at all to you?
Just like I'm a nobody, before, you put nobody
Why you trippin', and I ain't do nothin' at all to you
Every time you gotta leave, you just get so toxic
She quittin' me, she leavin'
Said she know I could change but know I won't for her
She got my name tatted, then three weeks later
I gave her money
She left the house then text a paragraph 'bout how she done
We ain't never have no one-on-one, but maybe that's the problem, though
Or, maybe it's that nigga gettin' to you, girl, I understand
How you downgrade me? I'm your man
If I ain't got it, another man, no way
You say I don't love her like I say
I could never trust her, that's a shame

[Chorus: YoungBoy Never Broke Again]
Part of livin' life like a man, so
Grindin', I been vibin', steady poppin' my X, though
Watchin', I been clutchin' my TEC, no
Lookin' through the rearview, tryna make sure I don't die

[Verse 2: Mariah the Scientist]
Fussin' and fightin', but you don't wanna leave
I take a look in your eyes, I don't know what I see
You can't deny there's some things you need and my love is just one of those things
But I should've let you go, can't seem to lose control
Chased it for way too long
Now you're lookin' for me in the crowd at your show
When you walked down, knew you was a goner
And when the song goes off, you're a loner
Yeah, and I'm heartbroke, I'm on my own now
Yeah, and at least I ain't out here sellin' souls, fuckin' fans
Havin' one foot out, one in
Said you wanted love, but it don't make sense, baby
Every thug need a girl with a clip, baby
Truth is, you know I know you're missin' me, baby

[Chorus: YoungBoy Never Broke Again]
Part of livin' life like a man, so
Grindin', I been vibin', steady poppin' my X, though
Watchin', I been clutchin' my TEC, no
Lookin' through the rearview, tryna make sure I don't die

About

Genius Annotation

“Rear View,” accompanied by Mariah the Scientist, is the second single leading up to YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s sixth full-length studio album, Don’t Try This At Home. The track sees YoungBoy equip a soothing, R&B-like theme as he raps about his toxic relationship with his previous girlfriend.

The song’s soft, and loving tone shares a similar cadence to the previously released Nicki Minaj-accompanied, “WTF” which also sees YoungBoy rap in a mellow fashion. The harmonious use of the piano magnifies the emotion both artists release.

In the track, YoungBoy seems to be rapping about his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child, Jania Meshell who has YoungBoy’s birth name, Kentrell, tattooed across the side of her face. Mariah, on the other hand, drops several hints, using her wordplay to reference Young Thug, her currently incarcerated boyfriend.

The song’s official Isaac Garcia-directed music video was released alongside the track. The video sees YoungBoy dancing in his Utah home while on house arrest, whereas Mariah is seen on a Football field at night.

The song was officially teased by Mariah the Scientist through a Tweet which indicated its release on April 13, 2023. The track was officially announced through the Never Broke Again label’s Instagram which posted a promotional cover art just hours prior to the track’s release.
