It’s been less than two weeks since 2 Chainz dropped his new album, Rap or Go to the League, but the Georgia rapper is already serving up more visuals for the project. Today, he released the music video for “Rule the World,” his collaboration with Ariana Grande that first came together in the wake of controversy. It’s directed by Sebastian Sdaigui, who has previously worked on videos for Future, Desiigner and 2 Chainz. The song samples “Why Don’t We Fall In Love” by R&B singer Amerie, and finds 2 Chainz rapping about finding love:
Fell in love with a real one, this a dedication
Had ‘em patiently waitin’ for a revelation
Even when I ain’t around, ain’t no separation
Your skin’s smooth, your eyes brown and you’re far from basic
In an recent appearance on Genius' For the Record, 2 Chainz explained that they linked up after controversy surrounding Grande’s “7 rings” taking cues from 2 Chainz’s own “Spend It.” “What we did was organic because I didn’t come with that plan originally,” he said. “I just had a dope song, she heard it, we went from there.”
“Rule the World” has earned more than 37,000 pageviews on Genius, outpacing every other song on the album except for the Kendrick Lamar collaboration “Mama I Hit A Lick.”
