It’s the latest single off the band’s forthcoming ‘5SOS5’ album.

Aussie pop-rockers 5 Seconds of Summer are back in the Top 5 of the Genius Top Songs chart with their new single “BLENDER,” which sadly isn’t about mixing up frozen drinks for poolside consumption. Instead, it’s about having your emotions chopped and pureed by a person you can’t resist—even though you probably should.

Songwriting credit on “BLENDER” goes to 5SOS members Luke Hemmings (lead vocals), Ashton Irwin (drums), and Calum Hood (bass), as well as songwriter Jake Torrey and the track’s producer, Peter Thomas. The track opens with ticking percussion and fat bass, over which Hemmings locks eyes with the person who’ll be his undoing.

Is it lonely where you are?
All the way across the room
With a knife inside your heart
I feel it, too, hmm

In the pre-chorus, as epic chords sound all around him, Hemmings shows just how far he’s willing to take his devotion.

I’d die for you, I’d die for you
I’d die for you (For you)
I tried for you, I tried for you, I tried
But all I hear is

But it’s never going to be a smooth ride with this person. Hemmings sings with a more anxious tone on the chorus, as the beat picks up.

All the things you said in my head
Ricocheting off the bed
Nothing left, what a mess
Oh, my God, it never ends

In the next lines of the hook, Hemmings suggests this relationship is extremely taxing for both parties. And yet they continue.

Now we’re stressed and depressed
And we’re going ’round again
In an emotional blender

Why do these people keep coming back to each other? Hemmings chalks it up to forces beyond the understanding of modern science.

But we just can’t keep away
When you know me like you do
It’s supernatural, got me howling at the moon

There are virtually no other lyrics in the song, so it’s impossible to know how the story ends. Perhaps fans will get more answers when 5SOS drops their fifth album, 5SOS5, on September 23. Pre-order your vinyl copy on Amazon now.
