Although 6ix9ine is probably more concerned about his impending federal racketeering trial, he’s also catching heat from an unexpected source: Fashion Nova. According to a TMZ report Fashion Nova paid 6ix9ine $100,000 to rap about the popular clothing brand on one of his songs. He chose the track “MAMA” featuring Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, where an Instagram snippet originally revealed him rapping:
Splish, splash, Fashion Nova make that ass fat
However, the final version of the record instead states:
Splish, splash, Apple Bottoms make that ass fat
He was also supposed to plug Fashion Nova in the song’s music video, which was never finished after two gunmen shot up the Beverly Hills mansion where it was set to be filmed.
TMZ claims the change happened because Nicki Minaj didn’t want a brand repped by her rival Cardi B to be mentioned on the song. Cardi’s Fashion Nova deal played a role in the latest iteration of their beef, with Nicki claiming she was offered a deal with the company before Cardi. Thus far, Fashion Nova is reportedly waiting to see what happens with 6ix9ine’s trial.

6ix9ine has been one of the most polarizing figures in hip-hop since he broke out with “Gummo” in late 2017. He rose to fame while still on probation after pleading guilty to one count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance in 2015, and now awaits trial on federal racketeering charges. He pleaded not guilty earlier this week, but the trial is not set to start until September 2019.
