“It was heartbreaking because I found out he played for your team, not mine.”

In 2002, Christina Aguilera transitioned from her former teen pop sound to a more mature style incorporating other genres on her fourth studio album Stripped. A few of the songs on the LP explore her relationship with an ex-boyfriend, including the Scott Storch-produced “Infatuation.” During an appearance on the RuPaul’s Drag Race aftershow Untucked on Thursday, Aguilera revealed that she later found out her former flame was gay.

After Aguilera was asked about the inspiration behind the song, she admitted, “It was heartbreaking because I found out he played for your team, not mine.” As Page Six points out, Aguilera told MTV News in 2002 that “Infatuation” was about falling in love with her backup dancer, whom she dated for two years.

On the chorus of “Infatuation,” Aguilera describes the emotions she felt about her ex:

I am full blood boricua
Reads the tattoo on his arm
He tells me ‘Mami, I need you’
And my heartbeat pumps so strong
Getting lost in el ritmo
He whispers te quiero, te quiero
I begin to give in with no hesitation
Can’t help my infatuation, it’s pure infatuation

Elsewhere in the segment, Aguilera to alluded her fallout with Stripped producer Storch:

We all have come from some journey. I’m sure we’ve all had a painful place and a struggle or something. And I think that’s really relevant. And that’s a part of my music and a part of where I came from. Being taking advantage of [by the guy for whom I] created ‘Fighter,’ growing up in this business at a young age, you can just imagine being around older men a lot and dishonest people. And it’s really hard.

On Aguilera’s 2006 song “F.U.S.S.,” she calls out Storch and references the songs they made together:

We wrote Loving Me 4 Me, don’t Walk Away
Can’t Hold Us Down, all part of our history
Don’t forget Infatuation, I’m a Fighter
Feeling Underappreciated

Storch produced several songs on Stripped, including “Infatuation,” “Fighter,” and the Lil' Kim-assisted “Can’t Hold Us Down.”
