City Girls‘ biggest song to date, “Act Up,” recently peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, but at least one member of the Miami duo wasn’t a fan of the song at first. In a new interview with Variety, Yung Miami implied it was her least favorite track from 2018’s Girl Code.

“No, I hated ‘Act Up,’” Yung Miami said, when asked if she thought the song would be a hit. “When me and JT made [Girl Code], that was the song I hated. Now that’s one of our biggest songs.”

The Earl On TheBeat-produced “Act Up” first went viral in early 2019, thanks to the #ActUpChallenge. It received an extra boost in March, when Young Nudy’s manager Trevor Patterson pointed out that Lil Yachty has a writing credit on the track.

In an interview with Kerwin Frost, Yachty explained that he wrote most of the song with Earl. “I wrote the whole song, except for JT’s last verse,“ he said. "But everything that everyone is singing, I wrote the whole thing.”

Yung Miami acknowledges Yachty’s involvement with the track in the “Act Up” video, which pauses during her verse to allow Yachty to deliver a few lines.

Elsewhere in the Variety interview, Yung Miami confirmed that group member JT—who is currently serving out a two-year sentence for credit card fraud—should be released from prison this summer. Earlier this week, Quality Control founder and CEO Pierre “Pee” Thomas said JT will be released from jail within the next 90 days.
