A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Wrote “Me And My Guitar” With A Juice WRLD Feature In Mind

“If I put anyone else on that song it wouldn’t have made no sense.”

A Boogie Wit da Hoodie recently took a step in a new musical direction with the release of his genre-bending “Me and My Guitar.” As it turns out, he had Juice WRLD in mind when he was first recording it. The Bronx rapper explained the situation in a new interview with Brandon ‘Jinx’ Jenkins posted on his YouTube channel.

“I made that song for Juice WRLD to get on. I was in LA and I was talking to [Lil] Bibby,” he explained. “Juice WRLD never picked up his phone, mind you, like he’d lose his phone every other day. Rest in peace to the bro though. I was trying to send it to him and [he passed away] like a week later I think.”

After Juice’s passing, he didn’t feel right asking another artist to hop on the track. “I feel like nobody else could even match up to that. If I put anyone else on that song it wouldn’t have made no sense,” he said. “So even though people would look at it like it’s not my style to drop a rockstar song like that and that vibe. And they’ll probably be like yeah that’s some Juice WRLD sh*t. I made it for Juice WRLD.”

The two artists worked together once before; Juice appeared on A Boogie’s 2018 track, “Demons & Angels,” a cut off his sophomore album, Hoodie SZN.

A Boogie also broke down his general approach to collaborations, saying he wants someone who will be a full partner to them rather than just doing what he asks.

“If it was both of us it would have been a vibe. I don’t like to make songs and try to battle my partner,” he said. “I’d rather make it a good song combined in one. Like me and Uzi, when we make songs, sometimes he make a trap vibe and I gotta follow him in a trappy way. But if I make a love song, he’ll still follow up with me on that love song because we like to make good music as one. We not battling each other.”

Artist 2.0 debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart last month, moving over 100,000 equivalent album units in its first week. “Me and My Guitar” debuted at No. 58 on the Hot 100 chart last week. He recently stopped by Genius to perform the song on our Open Mic series:
