Ali Gatie’s “What If I Told You That I Love You?” Is Poised To Be His Next Viral-Snippet-Turned-Hit
The song’s unofficial audio was buzzing on TikTok for more than a month before its release.
Last year, Canadian singer and rapper Ali Gatie earned his first Billboard Hot 100 with “It’s You,” which gained initial popularity as a viral snippet before peaking at No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100. Now, he’s looking to follow the same blueprint with “What If I Told You That I Love You?,” a guitar-driven track that also built buzz on TikTok before its official release on January 24.

“What If I Told You” first starting taking off in early December 2019, when Gatie posted an Instagram snippet that now sits at nearly 2.5 million views. Thanks to the loyal following he earned from “It’s You” and early viral hits like “Moonlight,” the clip soon got uploaded to TikTok, where the community created half-a-million videos with the unofficial audio.
The snippet wasn’t transcribed on Genius until December 26, but it racked up 2,600 daily pageviews right out of the gate. Although “What If I Told You” was still unreleased, it closed out 2019 and entered January with strong momentum. With Gatie’s fanbase eagerly anticipating the track, it averaged just over 2,600 daily pageviews before its official drop date.
On January 24, the song’s daily pageviews on Genius skyrocketed past 20,000. It has maintained a daily average of nearly 22,000 pageviews since then, indicating that “What If I Told You” is just getting started.
Gatie’s song has strong streaming numbers as well, hitting 3 million YouTube views in three days. Over on Spotify, the song has easily blown past one million global plays every day since hitting the streaming platform.
