He first teased a song titled “Babushka” during his Injured Generation tour.

It’s been a tough year for A$AP Rocky, who spent several weeks in a Swedish jail cell after being charged with assault. While he was eventually found guilty, he isn’t required to serve anymore jail time and is now focused on his next steps. Today, he unveiled the first trailer for a mysterious new release titled “Babu$hka Boi.”

While “babushka” technically means “grandmother,” it’s also commonly used to refer to the headscarves that Russian and Polish women wear. Rocky has recently taken a liking to wearing these same headscarves, a fact that is highlighted in the new trailer:

The clip draws inspiration from the 1990 film Dick Tracy, based on the classic cartoon strip. Rocky first teased a track titled “Babushka” during his Injured Generation tour earlier this year, although the trailer doesn’t specify whether “Babu$hka Boi” is a song, album title, or something else.

In a January 2019 interview with GQ, he explained the inspiration behind his bizarre style choice.

“It was inspired by a situation I had where my face got cut, and I started walking around with a Babushka to cover it,” he said. “It was about last September. It started with a yellow one when I was on Trevor Noah’s show. I actually did a Vogue shoot the day after I got my face slashed.”

Rocky’s last album, TESTING, arrived in May 2018. Since then, he’s dropped the Tame Impala-sampling “Sundress,” linked up with A$AP Ferg for “Pups,” and appeared on Jaden’s new album, ERYS.
