Big Sean is gearing up for the imminent release of his fifth studio album, Don Life. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Detroit rapper teased a track titled “Lucky Me,” which features him opening up about being diagnosed with a heart condition at 19 years old.

According to EW, the G.O.O.D. Music MC raps:

Lucky me, I was diagnosed with a heart disease at 19
Doctors said they had to cut it open, put a pacemaker on it to put it back on beat
Til my mother took me to holistic doctors and they prescribed me magnesium for two weeks
Went back to the regular doctors and they said, “Huh? damn, looks like we don’t need to proceed.”

He detailed the experience further in the interview. “I couldn’t even walk from one side of the room to the other without getting super-tired,” Sean said. “I passed out once in the shower and got rushed to the emergency room.”

“Lucky Me” is part of a project which Sean said was inspired by a period rediscovery. “I’ve never talked about certain things in my life,” he explained. “It just kind of made me realize I need to really express some of these things.”

In 2017, Sean released his most recent solo album, I Decided., as well as a joint project with Metro Boomin titled Double Or Nothing.

Ahead of Don Life, he’s dropped a series of singles: “Overtime,” “Bezerk,” and “Single Again.” The latter track features Sean addressing relationship issues and mental health.
