Billie Eilish Performs A Somber Cover Of The Beatles’ “Yesterday” At The Oscars

She could be up for an award of her own next year for her upcoming James Bond theme song.

Although she wasn’t up for an award at this year’s Academy Awards, Billie Eilish took the stage anyway to perform during the In Memorium segment. Accompanied by her brother FINNEAS on piano, the younger Eilish sibling delivered a somber cover of The Beatles‘ 1965 hit, “Yesterday.”

The segment paid tribute to many of the famous faces the industry lost this year, including Kobe Bryant, Danny Aiello, Rip Torn, and more.

This isn’t Eilish’s first time covering The Beatles. She delivered a ukulele rendition of the group’s 1968 track, “I Will,” during an appearance on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke last year:

Eilish could be up for an Academy Award in 2021; she was recently revealed as the performer for the next James Bond theme song, “No Time to Die.” At just 18 years old, Eilish will be the youngest Bond theme performer in the franchise’s history. She follows Sam Smith’s “Writing’s On the Wall” from 2015’s Spectre. Hans Zimmer will handle the new film’s score.

Correction: A previous version of this article named reporter Tony Aiello as someone who appeared in the Academy Awards' In Memorium segment. Actor Danny Aiello passed away in 2019 and was included in the segment.
