BTS Member V Makes Solo Debut With New Song “Love Me Again”

He’s the third member of the K-pop group to release solo music this year.

It’s the year of BTS solo music. Back in April, BTS member Jimin started the trend by dropping his debut solo LP, FACE, and last month, Jung Kook topped the Billboard Hot 100 with his smash solo single “Seven,” which features a verse from rapper Latto. Now, V is getting in on the fun with his solo debut “Love Me Again,” a soulful R&B-tinged track that has already risen to the top of the Genius Top Songs chart.

Over a sparse guitar-driven melody, V sings about longing for someone to take him back on “Love Me Again.” On the first verse, it seems V never got any real closure from a past relationship. They left and “took those memories” with them—according to the English translation—and as a result, he can’t seem to let what could have been go.

추억도 의미 없이
내게 넌 사라지고
이쯤에도 I can’t let you go, let you go

On the pre-chorus, V decides to “put it all out there.” He still wants this person and wonders if they feel the same.

다 말할래
너는 매일 어떤 사람 어떤 곳에
몇 번씩이나 뭘 하는지 널 생각해
Lost without you, baby

No one else compares to his ex on the hook.

I wish you would love me again
No, I don’t want nobody else

On the second verse, V admits that he was just trying to play it cool when they left the first time. He said he was “fine” and “alright,” but those words were “all lies.”

Said I’m alright, said I’ll be fine
I’m sorry, 거짓말이야 떠나지마
저리 가지마 멀리

“Love Me Again” arrived alongside an official music video and an announcement that V’s debut solo EP, Layover, will arrive on September 8. The project will include six tracks: “Rainy Days,” “Blue,” “Love Me Again,” “Slow Dancing,” “For Us,” and a piano version of “Slow Dancing.”

In a statement, V described Layover as a collection of his “personal preferences.” “I prepared it while thinking that ARMY would be happy, so I hope you all look forward to it,” he said. “You will be able to see solo artist V, which will show a new side and will be different from BTS’s V.”
