BTS Joins Forces With Zara Larsson On The Mura Masa-Produced “A Brand New Day”

“A girl from Sweden with 2 boys from Korea and a producer from the UK. It’s really BTS WORLD.”

BTS just unveiled the second song from their upcoming mobile game, as Swedish superstar Zara Larsson joins forces with members J-Hope and V. The song was produced by electronic music producer Mura Masa, who previously worked with A$AP Rocky and Charli XCX.

“Omg I remember when I had to lie in an interview when they asked if I had a k pop collab coming up because I didn’t wanna spoil the secret,” Larsson wrote on Instagram. “A girl from Sweden with 2 boys from Korea and a producer from the UK. It’s really BTS WORLD.”

In a tweet, she also revealed that they worked on the collaboration for over a year.

The track is built around a flickering flute loop, accompanied by trappy percussion with a tropical flair. In particular, the flute is a traditional Korean instrument called a daegeum. This isn’t the first time BTS has spotlighted wind instruments, as “134340” also prominently features a bit of digital flautistry.

This collab comes on the heels of the group’s first release from the BTS World soundtrack last week. Members Jin, Jimin, and Jungkook teamed up with Charli XCX on “Dream Glow.” A third track is set to be released on June 21.

“A Brand New Day” parallels the theme of following your dreams, which was at the heart of “Dream Glow.” Larsson sings:

I know you got them big dreams too
You can show me yours if you want to
They’re beautiful
We can look at them for hours
Surrender to their power

A press release calls the original tracks “fresh, new music to coincide with the game’s story of a parallel universe.” A full soundtrack will be released as a physical album on June 28.

BTS World, which will be released on June 26, will let players act as the BTS members’ managers with gameplay reminiscent of visual novels.
