Each day, millions of music fans come to Genius to read lyrics and learn about their favorite artists, and our Top Songs Chart reflects what the world is listening to all day, every day. In 2016, Genius song pages were viewed over one billion times. In 2017, we’ll be crunching numbers and compiling the Month In Lyrics on the first of every month.
The data is broken down into the following categories each month: Top Artists, Top Songs, Top Lyrics, and Top Albums.
One of this summer’s biggest hits, “Despacito,” has kept Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee at the top of Genius charts for another month. New albums from DJ Khaled, SZA, Halsey, Lorde, and Katy Perry launched them all into the top 20. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar and Drake are still holding on strong in the top five along with Ed Sheeran; all three artists released projects earlier this year, too.
The No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 were also Genius' Top Songs of May. Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito (Remix)” featuring Justin Bieber is the first Spanish-language song to hit the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart since “Macarena” in the late ‘90s and is still topping the charts. It knocked off Khaled’s summer smash “I’m The One,” which has remained at a close No. 2 on Genius charts. Plus, the viral “It’s Everyday Bro” phenomenon has held on strong in the top 10 for the last month.
Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito (Remix)” is one of the biggest Spanish-language songs to hit the top charts since the late ‘90s so it’s no surprise fans are trying to dissect and translate its lyrics. The Top Lyrics chart hasn’t changed much over the last few weeks with lyrics from Lil Uzi Vert’s “XO TOUR Llif3” and Kendrick Lamar’s smash hit “HUMBLE.” staying strong. A few lines off JAY-Z’s “Kill Jay Z” skyrocketed up the charts, too.

Tú, tú eres el imán y yo soy el metal
Me voy acercando y voy armando el plan
Lil Uzi Vert, “XO TOUR Llif3”
Push me to the edge
All my friends are dead
Childish Gambino, “Redbone”
Niggas creepin'
They gon' find you
Gon' catch you sleepin' (Oooh)
Future, “Mask Off”
Percocets, molly, Percocets
Lil Uzi Vert, “XO TOUR Llif3”
On the real, you shoulda never lied

JAY-Z, “Kill Jay Z”
You gave him 20 million without blinkin’
He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was he thinkin'?
“Fuck wrong with everybody?” is what you sayin'
But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane

I used to know, but now that shit don’t feel right
Future, “Mask Off”
Mask on, fuck it, mask off
Kendrick takes the top spot on this chart for the second month in a row with his DAMN album and Lil Uzi Vert comes in at No. 2 again with his Luv Is Rage 1.5 project featuring “XO TOUR Llif3.” DJ Khaled’s star-studded new album and SZA’s long-awaited Ctrl come in the top five, too. New releases from Lorde, Halsey, Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, and more round out the top 20.
