‘Drip or Drown 2’ is due out later this year.

Last year, Gunna rose to stardom with the success of his mixtape, Drip Season 3, as well as Drip Harder, his joint album with Lil Baby. Today, the Atlanta rapper returns with his first offering of the year, “One Call.” The Turbo-produced song serves as the first promotional single for Gunna’s forthcoming project, Drip or Drown II.

On the track, Gunna makes a reference to 2Pac’s 1995 song “Me Against The World” featuring Outlawz:

Against the world like 2Pac (Pac)
Say the wrong word, get you shot (Shot)

Me Against The World is 2Pac’s third studio album, released the year after he was shot outside Quad Recording Studios in New York City and sent to prison. The album debuted No. 1 on Billboard 200, making him the first artist to debut at the top of the chart while incarcerated.

On the second verse, Gunna references actor Barry Gordon:

Shoot a movie like Barry Gordon (Gordon)
A star was born (Star, star)

A few lines later, Gunna nods to Sheneneh, one of two characters actor Martin Lawrence plays in the 1992 sitcom Martin:

More Sheneneh than Martin Lawrence (Sheneneh)
Skinny jeans with a gun (Jeans with a gun)

The first installment of Drip or Drown dropped in 2017, including a sole feature from Gunna’s mentor Young Thug. Drip or Drown II is slated to release sometime this year.

Gunna appeared on Future’s seventh solo studio album, Future Hendrxx Presents: The WIZRD, last month. Future named Gunna and Lil Baby the new “goats” of trap music right now in a recent interview.
