It’s her first new song since 2015.

Pop star Demi Lovato is back with “Sorry Not Sorry,” her first new song since the release of her 2015 album Confident. The track is produced by Zaire Koalo, Trevor Brown, and Warren “Oak” Felder. All three producers recently worked on several tracks off Kehlani’s debut album SweetSexySavage,
including “In My Feelings,” “Escape,” and “Everything Is Yours.”

“Sorry Not Sorry” is a revenge anthem, with Lovato singing about feeling more confident than ever and overcoming the hate:

Now I’m out here looking like revenge
Feelin' like a 10, the best I ever been
And yeah, I know how bad it must hurt
To see me like this, but it gets worse (wait a minute)
Now you’re out here looking like regret
Ain’t too proud to beg, second chance you’ll never get

Although Lovato doesn’t name-check anyone on the song, fans will invariably point towards her feud with Taylor Swift as a source of inspiration. In a recent interview with Amazon, Lovato explained the meaning behind the song:

‘Sorry Not Sorry’ is a song basically to the haters, it is basically saying ‘I am good now, I am sorry I am not sorry that you may not be loving where your life is at the moment.’ It is s just a song about the haters.

She also shared a lengthy Instagram note thanking her fans for allowing her to have space over the past year:

Just over a week after dropping the song, Lovato shared the house party-set music video:

“Sorry Not Sorry” will presumably appear on Lovato’s sixth album, which doesn’t have a title or release date yet. Judging by her note, however, the project should be on its way soon.
