Drake Admits To Having A Secret Child On His New Album ‘Scorpion’

He addresses his son on “March 14,” ”Emotionless,” and “8 Out Of 10.”

Drake’s beef with Pusha-T took an unexpected turn late last month when the G.O.O.D. Music rapper claimed that Drake was “hiding a child” he conceived with French model Sophie Brussaux. The revelation brought their war of words to an immediate halt, with Drake going more or less radio silent. With his new album Scorpion out, the OVO boss has finally broken his silence on the topic, admitting that he does have a son and explaining some of the reasoning behind his decision to keep the news quiet.

Drake first mentions his son on the album’s fourth song “Emotionless,” rapping about protecting him from the media spotlight:

I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world
I was hiding the world from my kid
From empty souls who just wake up and looked to debate
Until you starin' at your seed, you can never relate

A few songs later on “8 Out Of 10,” Drake references his son in passing:

It’s not a matter of could I or should I
Kiss my son on the forehead then kiss your ass goodbye

He also briefly mentions a baby on “Finesse”:

I want my baby to have your eyes
I’m going against my own advice

The bulk of his revelation, however, comes on the album’s final song “March 14.” He kicks the song off by confirming that he took a DNA test and discovered that he had a son:

Yesterday morning was crazy
I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe
That shit is in stone, sealed and signed
She not my lover like Billie Jean but the kid is mine

Soon after, Drake reflects on the fact that, much like his own parents, he has ended up in a co-parenting situation rather than a traditional nuclear family:

I’m out here on front lines just making sure I see him sometimes
It’s breaking my spirit
Single father, I hate when I hear it
I used to challenge my parents on every album
Now I’m embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent
Always promised the family unit
I wanted it to be different because I’ve been through it

Drake also notes that he’s only spent time with his child—who was reportedly born last October—once, around Christmas. It’s worth noting that he was spotted in Amsterdam alongside Brussaux in early January:

I got an empty crib in my empty crib
I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick
I think he must’ve brought you like twenty gifts
Your mother say you growing so fast that they don’t even really fit
But you know, I still had to get it for my boy though, you know

It also seems that the two aren’t on great terms:

They said that in two weeks you’re supposed to come in town
Hopefully by the time you hear this me and your mother will have come around
Instead of always cutting each other down

Drake finishes off the song by reflecting on how the experience has changed him:

I’m changing from boy to a man
I’m all alone
No one to cry on
I need shelter from the rain
To ease the pain
