Drake took listeners of his SiriusXM’s Sound 42 session by surprise by leaking an unreleased Kanye West song called “Life of the Party.” The track, which features André 3000 and was recently previewed by Kanye, takes square aim at Drake.
On the track, Kanye raps about the recent group text he recently posted on Instagram:
I put Virgil and Drake on the same text
And it wasn’t about the matching Arc'teryx or Kid Cudi dress
Just told these grown men stop it with the funny shit
I might hire the whole team from ACG
He also calls back to their plans to make a joint album together, including the purchase of a billboard reading “Calabasas is the new Abu Dhabi”:
Thought we was the new Abu Dhabi
Told Drake don’t play with me on GD
And he sent that message to everybody
So if I hit you with a “WYD”
You better hit me with, “Yes sir, I’m writing everything you need”
The move comes shortly after Drake addressed his relationship with Kanye on “7AM On Bridle Path,” a song that dropped one week after he reignited their feud with a verse on Trippie Redd’s “Betrayal.”
Although Drake and Kanye West once enjoyed a close relationship and even planned to release a joint album together, things deteriorated between them after Drake’s beef with Pusha-T. Drake accused Kanye of leaking the information about his then-secret child, Adonis, to Push after a studio session in Wyoming, leading to biting personal lyrics on the diss track “The Story of Adidon.” Pusha refuted this claim, saying he found out from a girl who was sleeping with Drake’s longtime production partner, Noah “40” Shebib.
Drake was also upset that Kanye had released “Lift Yourself” as a nonsense troll song after promising him the beat, as well as coordinating a dueling rollout for G.O.O.D. Music’s 2018 albums while Drake was putting out Scorpion. Kanye said Drake had been “sneak dissing” him on songs like “No Stylist” and “SICKO MODE.”
