Drake Links Up With Rising R&B Star Summer Walker For “Girls Need Love (Remix)”

She covered the rapper’s 2018 song, “Peak,” last year.

Drake kicked off February with a streaming reissue of his 2009 mixtape, So Far Gone, and today the rapper released his first new content of the year with a remix of Summer Walker’s “Girls Need Love.” Produced by Arsenio Archer, the song originally dropped last July, and eventually appeared on the rising R&B star’s debut album, Last Days of Summer, in October.

Walker keeps her original track largely intact, with Drake adding a sing-song verse before the second chorus. On the track, he raps:

Submission, domination
Arched back, deep stroke, white wine, weed smoke, that’s my best combination
You just need some, dick with no complications
You just need some, you just need some, late night attention, uncondition

Although this is the two artists' first time working together, Walker released a cover of Drake’s Scorpion cut, “Peak,” last September:

Drake has a long history of dropping remixes of rising artists' songs, with previous examples including iLoveMakonnen’s “Tuesday,” Dave’s “Wanna Know,” and (more controversially) DRAM’s “Cha Cha.”

Summer Walker is an Atlanta singer-songwriter signed to Interscope and LVRN. “Girls Need Love” is the biggest song of her career thus far. She just put out her new EP, CLEAR, in late January.
