Elton John Delivers A Spirited Cover Of Khalid’s “Young Dumb & Broke”

The two artists first met in 2017.

In March 2017, Elton John declared that El Paso, Texas singer Khalid was “on the road to superstardom.” Today, Sir Elton paid tribute to the young star with a cover of Khalid’s 2017 hit, “Young Dumb & Broke,” for his new Spotify Singles session. Khalid’s track peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the fifth-highest chart position of his career.

Elton John’s rendition of the song was recorded at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, where the star singer recently wrapped up his residency, The Million Dollar Piano.

He stays faithful to the song’s original lyrics, singing—as the title suggests—about being young and carefree:

I’m so high at the moment
I’m so caught up in this
Yeah, we’re just young, dumb and broke
But we still got love to give

Elton John previously met Khalid in 2017 during a show at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, where he dedicated a performance of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” to Khalid. The American Teen singer later revealed that he accidentally missed the performance after leaving the concert early, but expressed his admiration and appreciation for Elton John.

The Spotify Singles session that Sir Elton released also features a live performance of his 1974 hit, “Bennie and the Jets.”
