Jay Electronica’s debut album stands as one of hip-hop’s most legendary unreleased projects. For many years, it seemed like it would stay that way, but he dropped a bomb on fans in early February by revealing that the long-awaited album was done and on the verge of release.
Set to drop a full decade after Jay Electronica first signed to JAY-Z’s Roc Nation, the album will be titled A Written Testimony. Based on what’s been teased so far, it seems JAY-Z had a major role in the album’s creation. Aside from a few sporadic announcements, however, much about the album remains unknown.
To help keep fans abreast of the situation, Genius rounded up everything we know about Jay Electronica’s long-awaited debut, A Written Testimony, below:
When he announced the project on February 7, Jay Electronica revealed that it would be dropping in 40 days:
That would mean the album’s release date is Friday, March 18. It’s worth noting, however, the TIDAL is holding fan listening parties this Thursday, March 12. That could indicate the album is set to release on Friday, March 13:
So far, there’s no official date.
TIDAL revealed the project’s cover art on Thursday, March 12:
JAY-Z is expected to be heavily involved in the project based on Jay Electronica’s tweets:
Although the mogul isn’t normally active on Twitter, he favorited every one of Jay Electronica’s tweets about the project back in February:
Young Guru later shared a photo of them together in the studio:
Jay Electronica also shared a short song snippet on his social media:
Producer Just Blaze hinted at his involvement in the project, too:

Jay Electronica finally revealed the tracklist on Thursday, March 12:
Translated into English (via HipHopNMore), this reads:
This notably does not list any JAY-Z features, although it seems likely that he is still on the album.
Jay Electronica spent years teasing an album titled Act II: Patents Of Nobility (The Turn), and even shared a full tracklist for the project back in 2012. That album, however, failed to materialize.
In his February announcement, Jay clarified that A Written Testimony was created from scratch in 40 days starting in December 2019. As such, the album will be entirely unrelated to Act II.
