Here’s Everything We Know About Lana Del Rey’s Upcoming Album ‘Norman F*cking Rockwell’

The return of Lana Del Rey is imminent. The Americana diva is set to drop her sixth studio album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, in 2019. The project comes two years after the release of her critically acclaimed Lust For Life in 2017.

Three pre-release singles–“Venice Bitch,” “Mariners Apartment Complex” and “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it”–have been connected to the album, but the exact details remain shrouded in mystery. After a previously reported release date of March 29 by MTV UK came and went, Lana finally revealed that the project is set to drop on Friday, August 30:

Lana revealed the Norman Fucking Rockwell cover art on July 31:

There’s also cover art for several singles. The first, “Mariners Apartment Complex,” was released on Sept. 12, 2018.

She revealed the art for “Venice Bitch” four days later.

Finally, she put out “​hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it” on January 9. The song was originally titled “Sylvia Plath.”

Lana shared the full tracklist on July 31. The project is set to include all four of her recent singles, including her cover of Sublime’s “Doin Time”:

Lana previously dished on the album’s behind-the-scenes details this past September. “It’s called Norman Fucking Rockwell. It was the album title since March [2018],” she told Zane Lowe on Beats 1. “I mean, working with Jack [Antonoff], I was in a little bit of a lighter mood because he was so funny.”

She also delved further into the backstory of the album’s title track.

“So the title track is called “Norman Fucking Rockwell,” and it’s kind of about this guy who is such a genius artist but he thinks he’s the shit and he knows it and he won’t shut up talking about it,” she said. “So often I ended up with these creative types or whatever and, you know, they just go on and on about themselves, and I’m like, Yeah, yeah. But there’s a little bit of merit to it also. They are so good. I just like the title track so much that I was like, OK, I definitely want the record to also be called that.”

Antonoff previously tweeted about the studio experience with Lana:

The “Video Games” singer revealed during an Instagram Live stream in December that the album was “completely finished,” according to Billboard.

This album is her first team-up with star producer Jack Antonoff. Their first collaborative single, “Mariners Apartment Complex,” was released in September 2018.
