Fans Are Speculating That Ariana Grande’s “How I Look On You” Is About Pete Davidson

“It’s not my POV or personal album.”

Ariana Grande executive produced the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack, where she is featured on five tracks. Naturally, Arianators are already dissecting one of the album cuts, “How I Look on You.”

Produced by Max Martin and ILYA, the song centers on a love interest who may or may not be using Grande for her fame:

We step out on a Friday night
New front page, it’s a cute headline
I made you a thing, like, “Who’s that guy?”
Say you ain’t in it for the spotlight, boy

Plenty of fans are speculating about how this track connects to her relationship with Pete Davidson.

At one point, Grande disses the anonymous guy for making career moves:

Cover on a magazine in just two weeks
“Boy to Watch”, ain’t he just, just too sweet?
Now he ain’t even got time for me
I only see him on the big screen

One fan drew a connection between the lyrics and Davidson’s own career developments.

However, Grande herself has waved away the idea that the album is from her personal POV:

She has written about her ex-fiancé before. On “thank u, next,” she shouted him out by name:

Even almost got married
And for Pete, I’m so thankful

Grande released the song 45 minutes before SNL’s season premiere last year. The comedian poked fun at their broken engagement in a promo clip with Jonah Hill and Maggie Rogers. It was reported that Grande initially reacted to the bit in a now-deleted tweet:

Davidson also addressed the breakup during a Weekend Update segment on Saturday Night Live.

Grande hasn’t confirmed who “How I Look on You” is about. For now, this speculation can be filed as a fan theory.

Elsewhere on the soundtrack, Nicki Minaj, Lana Del Rey, and Normani make guest appearances.
