Fifth Harmony Is Taking An Indefinite Hiatus To Pursue Solo Projects

“We’ve really had one hell of a memorable journey together.”

The X Factor-birthed girl group Fifth Harmony is officially taking a break. In a note posted to the group’s social media accounts, Fifth Harmony revealed that following its upcoming shows scheduled through May, the foursome will be going on an indefinite hiatus to pursue solo projects. Although the statement doesn’t give any hint about when (if ever) they may resume working together as Fifth Harmony, it does leave the door open for a future reunion:

The hiatus comes less than two years after former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello left the group to pursue a solo career (releasing her self-titled album in January). Each Fifth Harmony member has already started releasing solo work in some capacity. Lauren Jauregui dropped songs with Halsey (“Strangers”), Marian Hill (“Back to Me”), and Ty Dolla $ign (“In Your Phone”) last year, while Normani recently joined forces with Khalid for “Love Lies” off the Love, Simon soundtrack. Dinah Jane also linked up with RedOne, Daddy Yankee, and French Montana for 2017’s “Boom Boom,” and Ally Brooke appeared alongside A$AP Ferg on the Lost Kings track “Look At Me Now” last year, although neither artist has dropped their official solo debut.

Fifth Harmony’s decision to split will undoubtedly draw comparisons to One Direction, which saw original member ZAYN depart before the group disbanded to pursue solo work in 2016. Like Fifth Harmony, the remaining One Direction members have left the door open to a potential reunion, despite each singer finding success in their solo careers.

Fifth Harmony’s last, self-titled album, dropped in August 2017 and spawned the Top 50 hit “Down” featuring Gucci Mane. The group’s biggest hits remain the multi-Platinum “Work From Home” and “Worth It,” although they also earned plaques for songs like “All in My Head (Flex)” and “Sledgehammer.”
